Emily and Tyler’s Tropical Themed Mexican Wedding by Arte Visual Photography

Today’s wedding sees us head across to Mexico for this cool, tropical themed Jungle wedding. Emily and Tyler held a stunning wedding against the Mexican beach backdrop, planner Lucy Gallagher helped them put the whole thing together and what a brilliant job she did and Photographer ARTEVISUAL was there to capture the day for us. I love the natural elements of this wedding, mixed with the modern styling, they work perfectly together. The use of greenery is perfect for the minimal look they went for. Super stylish and a really gorgeous day.

The wedding day was calm but also a ton of fun to be surrounded by all of our loved ones in one place. The entire day transpired seamlessly and we were also able to have special moments where just the two of us could spend time together.

Emily and Tyler were married on 6th January 2023 at Mahekal Beach Resort in Playa del Carmen in Mexico, with the ceremony in the Oasis Garden and the reception in Celebre palapa next to where the ceremony took place. We wanted to get married somewhere warm that felt like a tropical paradise, we had 100 guests and it took 8 months to plan.

How they met
We met on a dating app and had been together for 3 years before getting married, now we have been together for 4 years and share a beautiful 6 month old girl, Georgia.

The proposal
The proposal took place in Puerto Vallarta Mexico the April prior the wedding. Tyler had hired a photographer and walked me down to the beach at sunset and got down on one knee and popped the question.

Where did you splurge and where did you save?
Splurged on the upgraded liquor package and LED dancefloor. Saved on some of the rentals, we used what the resort had such as the bar and cocktails

How did you choose your photographer?
I chose the photographer based on photos I had seen on Instagram. I was inspired by artistic aesthetic and the realness of the photos.

The dress
My dress was by Sarah Seven, my earrings were a gift from Tyler before the wedding and I was also wearing a family heirloom necklace for part of the day and then a necklace my mom and sister gifted me the rest of the day. The necklace had the signature of my best friend who passed away the year before the wedding.

The suit and bridesmaids
The bridesmaids’ dresses were from Show me your Mumu and the suits were from a local store in downtown Kansas City called Slabotsky’s.

Theme or colour scheme
I wanted a more neutral theme that would blend in with the scenery at the resort which has a beautiful jungle vibe and is very nature forward.

Flowers
I had a lot of greenery, including a lot of palm leaves. There were some orchids sprinkled in my bouquet and then anthurium and monsteras blended in on the tables.

Decoration
We tried to keep the décor at a minimum to the greenery, some florals, candlelight, and lanterns.

Food
Starter: Lettuce salad with fresh berries, brie cheese, and passion fruit vinaigrette
Main courses: Beef filet, potato medallion, mixed vegetables, and green pepper sauce. Grouper filet, tomato risotto, and butter tarragon vegetables. Asparagus risotto.
Desserts: coconut wedding cake, fresh churros and ice cream, coffee and tea

Wedding cake
Simple 3-tiered coconut cake

Entertainment
Disco movil DJ, LED lit dance floor, churro cart

Who supplied the stationery?
Minted

Where did you go on your honeymoon?
Positano, Italy

Personal touches
Hand painted black stones for place cards, purchased from Etsy. We also wanted the gift bags for our guests to have an authentic Mexican vibe, which included Talavera tiles, Mexican snacks, tequila, and pom poms.

Special moments
Highlights of the day were the moments Tyler and I had alone, taking in all of the love and support from our family and friends. We also had a moment alone to reveal the garden all set up for the ceremony and the reception area completely put together before anyone else got there. It was very surreal to finally see my vision come to life.

Advice other couples
I would advise the couple to give themselves plenty of time to plan the wedding so that it isn’t rushed. I would also strongly encourage an experienced wedding planner, especially if you are doing a destination.

Biggest surprise
How calm I was!
