Snorkeling at Molokini Crater

If you have plans to snorkel in Maui, then you should book a tour to the Molokini crater where you can snorkel from a catamaran. Since the crater is partly submerged, there is no sand surrounding the snorkel site, meaning you have a clear underwater visibility of up to 150 feet.

Other snorkeling spots to explore in Maui include the Turtle Town, officially called Maluaka Beach, and Coral Gardens. These destinations are great for seeing the humpback whales and swimming with turtles and tropical fish.

Outrigger Canoe Experience

If you’ve ever seen a vintage Hawaii postcard, then you’ve probably seen an outrigger canoe. These canoes were originally used by the natives to sail through the Hawaiian Islands. Today, tourists paddle them to different attraction sites while learning about Hawaiian culture.

So if you’re interested in learning about the history, culture, and marine life of Hawaii, then a sailing canoe tour is a great alternative to a museum visit. A tour guide will be with you throughout, teaching you the names of places and marines and directing you to the best attraction site for epic photos.

Surfing or Learning How to Surf

Maui has several surf spots where you can experience the thrill of riding 50-foot-high waves. Honolua Bay, for instance, transitions from pristine waters to perfect swells and is a perfect sport for adrenaline junkies. If you don’t know how to surf, consider taking a private surfing lesson with your family and friends.

Whale Watching

Whale watching is a great activity that you can get your whole family involved in. Hawaii has a whale population of over 21,000 whales, according to the Hawaii Wildlife Fund. If you’re visiting Maui between November and April, then you’re lucky. Around this time every year, more than 1000 whales swim from the Gulf of Alaska to Hawaii to give birth and nurse their calves. One of the most popular whale-watching spots to visit is the Aua Channel between Lanai and Maui, where you can see the whales from the shore, boat, or a kayak.

Hiking in Haleakala National Park

Exploring the Haleakala National Park should top your list of things to do in Maui. The park has many hiking trails suitable for families that want to explore the unique volcanic landscape. Depending on your preference, you can choose to go for a sunrise or a sunset hike. Hiking times can range from a 30-minutes stroll to over eight hours trip into the crater. Therefore, you should allocate plenty of time for the best experience.

Transforming Into a Mermaid

Hawaii Mermaid Adventures has an enchanting excursion that lets you swim in the ocean with a mermaid tail. However, before jumping into your costume, you’ll first learn about the myths and legends surrounding mermaids and the importance of these fantastical beings in Hawaiian folklore. Don’t forget to take plenty of pictures to back up your mermaid claims when you get home.

Visit the Kula Botanical Gardens

The Kula botanical garden is located on the slopes of Haleakala.  It was established in 1968 by Warren and Helen McCord as a display garden for their landscape architecture business. Fast forward to today, and the garden has become a tourist attraction site, attracting thousands of visitors every year….

The Kula botanical garden is a perfect place to go for a stroll while enjoying the beautiful sceneries of Maui. It’s home to colorful plants and tropical flowers such as Protea, White Ginger, and rainbow Eucalyptus. The garden is open for all guests from 9 am to 4 pm, seven times a week. The cost for admission is $10 for adults, $3 for children between 6-12 years, and free for kids under 5.

Catching Your Dinner

Fishing is a way of life for most of the Maui population. It’s also an amusing and easy activity for visitors and tourists visiting the island. With a population of approximately 10 million fish, it’s highly unlikely that you’ll end the day empty-handed or have nothing to eat for dinner.

A great catch means a fresh, savory meal for lunch or dinner. The best part is you don’t have to cook it yourself. The local cooks will help ensure you and your family get a delectable meal to highlight the island’s vibrant flavors.

Horse Riding

Going on a horse-riding tour is a great way to explore the island of Maui. There are lots of places where you can go horse riding. If you’re in West Maui, the best place to ride horses is at Ironwood Ranch. And if you’re in Central Maui, check out Malani Olu and Mendes ranches. The guides will help you find a suitable horse based on your horse-riding abilities and age. You’ll then hit the road in groups of six or less and explore the vast terrain.

Explore the Road To Hana

If you love going on road trips, then you should explore the Road to Hana. It’s one of the most scenic drives in the world, with more than 600 turns and 50 bridges. The road takes just over two hours from Central Maui. You can stop over to enjoy other activities like hiking in the bamboo forests, standing in lava tubes, and swimming in freshwater. For a more relaxed experience, take a guided tour.
